The Los Banos boys tennis team (14-1 CCC) hosted the Atwater Falcons April 14 for “Senior night,” and swept all nine matches, securing first place and a CCC league championship.
On the next day the Tigers traveled to Merced to play the El Capitan Gauchos, and came home with an 8-1 victory, completing their league season with a 14-1 record and the CCC league tennis championship.
Against the Falcons, Los Banos would sweep all nine matches, with Justin Gould (6-2, 6-2), Nick Tova (6-0, 6-0), Chase Fifield (6-0, 6-1), Yahir Zuniga (6-0. 6-1), Noah Cardenas (6-1, 6-1, 15-0 in CCC), Tyler Meza (6-1, 6-0, 15-0 in CCC) all winning their singles matches.
The Tigers also won all three doubles matches, with Carlos De La Torre and Sebastian Paolini (6-3, 6-0), Edgar Vicarra and Jesus Lopez (6-0, 6-1) and Nelson Fabian and Drake Fifield (6-2, 6-1) sweeping their Falcon doubles opponents.
Then on Tuesday, the Tigers completed their 2025 CCC league championship season defeating the Gauchos 8-1, and finishing the season with an excellent 14-1.
The Tigers will lose nine seniors from this year’s championship team, but coach J.T. Barcellos is excited about some of his junior varsity squad including Elijah Chiappetta, Zaevin Cancino, Maggio Carter coming in to join the returning players to keep up the winning ways.
With their CCC league championship the Tigers will host a first round Sac-Joaquin section playoff match on May 1.
