(Editor’s note: Several readers wanted to know more about the Garden Guru’s background. In response, Mark Koehler has written this column today.)

Hello again Westside Gardeners!

Most of you already know of me and my extensive background; but there are many of you out there who are new to the Westside.

My name is Mark Koehler. I have 47 years of experience directing landscape and arboriculture crews for the Pebble Beach Company, Bernardus Lodge, as well as estate management in the Santa Barbara – Montecito areas.

My career is built on a foundation of formal education, but more significantly on decades of large scale, high intensity hands-on expertise. I am proficient in operational efficiency, comprehensive logistics and anticipating needs. And I am relentless in finding solutions.

My credentials and certifications include these:

Degrees in Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, Arboriculture, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering and Landscape Technician.

Certified Master Arborist and Master Gardener.

Skilled in comprehensive resort and estate management, including staff supervision, budgeting control and vendor relationships.

Ability to manage multiple properties, maintenance schedules and improvement projects.

Precise and proactive personal assistance, anticipating needs before they arise.

Ability to create and maintain aesthetically stunning gardens and procure plant/tree specimens.

During my career I have refined my skills to anticipate and fulfill the needs of both local citizens and properties. Over the years my clients have said I was an exceptionally valuable asset, and local contractors have appreciated my property oversight and life management assistance.
