With a new school semester in session, the Spanish Honor Society plans to host more events and engage more students in celebrating Hispanic culture.
The induction ceremony for new members is one of the main events the Spanish Honor Society is focusing on this semester. Each year, the club holds an event to welcome and formally celebrate students who have been accepted.
“For starters, the ceremony is a surprise. New members aren’t told about the process, and it’s a lot of fun,” said senior Alessandra Ortiz, the club’s vice president. “The exclusivity of the club makes the ceremony even more special. Unlike others, there are very specific requirements to join.”
Ortiz also shared how planning this year’s ceremony is particularly meaningful. “I remember my own induction. It was a great experience, so I’m really excited to help create that memory for the incoming members,” she said.
The annual dance is another highlight of the semester. This event brings students together through food, music and dance.
Additionally, teachers on campus often encourage participation by offering extra credit for attending, making it an even more popular and anticipated event.
“We are working on organizing our annual Spanish Honor Society dance. It’s a casual event, but it’s a lot of fun,” Ortiz said. “There are even talks of a live performance.”
To round off its plans, the Spanish Honor Society will also participate in the school’s annual multicultural night.
Recently, the club has contributed by selling treats to raise money and share information about its heritage. Not only does this tradition support the school community, but it also provides an opportunity for students to engage and learn about other cultures.
As the semester progresses, the Spanish Honor Society will continue celebrating Hispanic culture and creating opportunities for students to engage with their heritage.
