The Dos Palos Lions Club is stepping up its entertainment lineup for this weekend’s Cotton Festival.
This Saturday evening at O’Banion Park, Elvis Presley tribute artist Lloyd Aron Douglas will take to the stage to entertain fairgoers with the best of “The King’s” hit songs.
The live show will start at 8 pm.
A resident of San Francisco, Douglas has been performing his act all across the country “to honor the king of Rock & Roll with an act that will rock your world.”
Douglas has spent years perfecting his craft, concentrating on every detail to make his performance the best.
One critic said: “His looks, sound and careful attention to every detail makes his show a truly unique tribute to the King.”
Besides his live performances, Douglas has also appeared on television and movies, and once portrayed Elvis in a documentary movie entitled “The Biography of Jackie Wilson.”
Offstage, Douglas serves as an ambassador for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital Center in San Francisco and the Shriner’s Hospital in Sacramento. He contributes by donating his time and Elvis Tribute appearances for their fundraisers.
Douglas is a Mounted Deputy Sheriff with the San Joaquin Sheriff’s Office and is assigned to their mounted unit, holding the rank of instructor.
“Having performed throughout the United States, I love meeting all Elvis fans and keeping his memory alive,” said Douglas. “I am thankful for the opportunity to touch lives through my tribute to the King.”
The performance by Douglas will be just one of the highlights of this year’s festival. It will begin this Thursday evening with the annual Miss Dos Palos Pageant, which will take place at the D.E.S. Hall
Fifteen young ladies will be competing in five different divisions, and the pageant is scheduled to start at 6 pm.
On Friday, the annual downtown Ag parade will take place starting at 6 pm, and this will also be the official opening of the carnival midway. This year, Teaco Amusements out of Patterson returns to Dos Palos to provide thrilling rides for both old and young.
There will also be the traditional “fair food” as well as food booths hosted by local non-profit organizations and churches.
On Saturday, there will be a Cornhole Tournament and a Co-ed softball tournament. At 5 pm on Saturday, there will be radio control car racing.
And all during the weekend, the Lions Club will be selling their well-known slab of ribs.
