An historic auction is being held at Eagle Field on Saturday, Sep. 7. The auction is from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Inspection for buyers begins at 8 a.m.

Eagle Field is located at 11100 West Eagle Avenue, Firebaugh. The airstrip is considered by locals to be part of Dos Palos history.

This auction is not a sale of the museum collection or museum items, but rather of a private lifetime collection of Joe Davis. The collection includes vehicles, parts and memorabilia. According to Dan Cobb of the estate liquidator’s company, “Mr. Davis spent more than four decades accumulating his private collection.”

Among the items to be auctioned are an assortment of vintage army vehicles. This includes trucks, jeeps, tractors and other work equipment. Antiquated spray rigs and road building equipment are also available.

A period army bus is part of the collection. Trailer offerings include classic camp trailers and classic army equipment tow trailers.

The collection of period automobiles is an antique car show in itself, with many makes and models and newer vehicles as well. Some cars need extensive restoration while others are in better condition. Fall in love with a classic Jaguar, Mercedes or British MG which are among the offerings.

There are classic plane engines and a vast assortment of parts. Shelves and shelves display clamps, bolts and various small parts. Many parts are for vehicles but some are for plumbing too.

Assorted World War II items include a helmet, a uniform, suitcases and travel trunks, heaters, bicycles and motorbikes and much more.

Among the vintage books find collectors’ encyclopedias and books about aviation and space. Some volumes describe how to battle bombers and fight twentieth century warfare. Others explore the then new space science.

There are period books for youth. Webelos is about transitioning from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts.

Cash and major credit cards will be accepted. The buyer’s premium, an amount paid to the auction company by the buyer, is an additional 13 percent. Those paying cash receive a 3 percent discount. A local sales tax is added.

All merchandise is sold as is with no warranties and no refunds. Only those who register for a bidder’s number will be able to bid. Valid identification is required.
