Are you noticing higher energy bills?  A big reason is that gas prices are rising.

PG&E also recently raised its rates significantly for electricity in 2022. The good news is that customers in Los Banos are paying less than other PG&E customers because of Peninsula Clean Energy.

Here’s how it works:

Starting in April 2022, Peninsula Clean Energy began providing clean electricity to Los Banos residents and businesses at a cost savings compared to the electricity provided by PG&E.

Your energy bill still comes from PG&E and now includes a charge from Peninsula Clean Energy. But this is not an extra charge.

Electricity service is composed of two parts: generation and delivery. Until recently, both services were provided by PG&E but now Peninsula Clean Energy is the default electricity generation provider for Los Banos. PG&E continues to own and operate existing power lines, poles and other infrastructure to deliver the power to our homes and businesses.

The clean electricity provided by Peninsula Clean Energy replaces the electric power PG&E previously provided. Charges for this electricity generation appear as a separate line item on the PG&E bill, but it is not an extra charge. It replaces what PG&E would have charged but at a 5% discount for electricity generation. Understanding your energy bill can be confusing, and you can learn more about how to make sense of your bill at PenCleanEnergy.com/for-residents.

“Customer participation in Peninsula Clean Energy has been high, and as energy costs continue to rise, it’s reassuring that our residential and business communities have some relief in the form of electricity savings on their bill,” said Stacy Souza, Los Banos’ Interim City Manager and Community & Economic Development Director. “Every little bit helps.”

Historically, PG&E has been the only electricity provider to customers in Los Banos. But in 2002, state legislators passed California’s Community Choice Aggregation law to make Community Choice offerings the default electricity generation service. This has increased competition, resulting in lower cost electricity and cleaner options for customers.

In October 2020, the Los Banos City Council voted to join Peninsula Clean Energy. Now Los Banos residents and businesses receive cleaner, less expensive electricity and enjoy a wide range of rebates, incentives and other programs to save even more on electric appliances, electric vehicles and emergency backup power.

Starting last April, electricity customers were automatically enrolled in Peninsula Clean Energy’s service. However, customers who would like to instead purchase their electricity generation – at higher cost – from PG&E can opt out of receiving Peninsula

Clean Energy’s cleaner electricity. Learn more about Peninsula Clean Energy at PenCleanEnergy.com/los-banos or call 1-866-966-0110.
