Young performers from across the Los Banos community are preparing to take the stage in a production of Disney’s “The Lion King Jr.” following two weeks of rehearsals, theatre activities and creative learning.

The Los Banos Arts Council is inviting families and community members to attend the performances on Friday, June 26, and Saturday, June 27, at 5 p.m. at the Ted Falasco Arts Center. Tickets will be available for $5 at the door.

The production is part of a free summer theatre camp offered by the Los Banos Arts Council for children and teenagers ages 7 to 15. The production this year is being led by Naya Ramsey-Clark and is part of the NRC Theater Camp.

Since the camp began, participants have been working together to learn their roles, practice songs and movements and prepare the show for a live audience.

Recent rehearsals have brought together a large group of young performers who are learning what it takes to create a theatre production. In addition to memorizing lines and practicing scenes, the students are developing confidence, cooperation and stage presence.

For some participants, the camp may be their first opportunity to perform in front of an audience. Others may already have an interest in theatre and are using the program to continue building their skills. The production gives every student a chance to contribute and become part of the story.

The Lion King Jr. is based on Disney’s well-known story about Simba, a young lion who must discover his courage and accept his place as a leader. The musical includes memorable characters, music and themes of friendship, responsibility and finding where one belongs.

The performances will also give family members, friends and local residents an opportunity to support the young cast and recognize the work they have completed during the camp. Community support can make the experience even more meaningful for children stepping onto the stage.

The Ted Falasco Arts Center is located at 1105 Fifth St. in Los Banos. Both performances will begin at 5 p.m., with tickets priced at $5 at the door.

By attending the show, community members can enjoy a family-friendly performance while supporting local youth and the performing arts in Los Banos.
