Since roughly 9:30 a.m. on June 30, the western parts of Madera, Merced and Stanislaus Counties have been affected by a wireless internet and voice communication outage.

According to the AT&T Spokesperson, the blackout was caused by “two fiber cuts in Central California.” No further information about the cuts was provided at the time.

The outage has affected 911 services in the area. The Merced County Sheriff’s Office released a statement at 1:38 p.m. stating that its 911 services were affected and Text-to-911 was completely down. According to its statement, Merced County calls are being rerouted to the Stanislaus Regional 911 Center.

The AT&T Spokesman said, “We are rerouting 9-1-1 calls to neighboring public safety answering points (PSAPs). We are working with our teams and partners to help ensure calls continue to go through while repairs are underway.”

According to the official AT&T outage map, the outage was caused by a “transport failure,” with an estimated repair time at 12:15 a.m. on July 1.

“We understand how important these services are and appreciate the patience of our customers,” the spokesperson ended their statement to The Express.
