Eugene Floyd Green passed away peacefully at his home in Dos Palos surrounded by family and care-givers, on October 18, 2025.

Gene was born on August 8, 1931 in Elgin, Nebraska to Floyd and Pauline Green. As a child he lived in Nebraska and Iowa before moving west to California to help his family in the alfalfa business in Dos Palos.

Gene enlisted in the United States Air Force and was a Staff Sergeant stationed in Anchorage Alaska during the Korean War. He was a proud member of the Dos Palos American Legion Post 86.

Gene was a truck driver and partnered with his father and later owned and operated F.L. Green Trucking. He and his crew made long hauls moving local harvests all over the state of California. His semi cabs were always hand waxed and spotless. He and his father custom painted them with custom colors and a stripe pattern that was a distinctive brand for the company. You could see their trucks coming down the road sparkling in the sun from a mile away!

Gene was an adventurer. Always up for a drive across the state of California, exploring back roads he’d never traveled. He also stopped at many casinos in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains as well as Reno and Tahoe. During days not on the road you would find Gene at the Servatorium each evening with a cold one in hand, trading stories with his buddies before heading home to catch Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. In his early days Gene was a top-level bowler. He and his team from the Los Banos Bowl would enter tournaments up and down the state. Even though most people knew him as a quiet and honest man, they may not know of his never-ending support for a long list of local and regional charities and organizations in need.

Gene was predeceased by his wife Glenda, his parents Floyd and Pauline, and his brother Charles (Juanita.)

Gene is survived by his Nephew’s Chris (Debbie) of Glendale, California and Tom (Jacquie) of Conway Arkansas, and Grandnieces Amanda Shirley (Colt and Great-Grand Nephew Cardin Shirley), Chelsea Green (Ethan and GreatGrand Nephew Desmond), Hannah Green and Jenelle Pocquet (Matthias)

Graveside services will be held on Friday January 16, 2026 at 11:00am at the Dos Palos Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to attend. As a remembrance, the family encourages donations to your favorite charity.
