REV. STEPHEN HAMMOND, SENIOR PASTOR OF BETHEL COMMUNITY CHURCH
“The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him,” Nahum 1:7. Jesus is coming soon! The signs of His soon return are evident all around us.
We see these signs on the news each night as we see that the times we are living in are getting increasingly evil. People are yelling and screaming at one another, celebrating violence against someone they disagree with and destroying property in the name of protest.
What can we do in such perilous times? We can hide in fear, we can speak out against such behavior or we can hope that things get better, but there is really only one true answer to evil in the world. His name is Jesus, and he is good even when everything around us is evil.
Our God is inherently good and he never changes, so he will always be good. Our circumstances change constantly. We change throughout our lives, and society changes from one generation to the next, but God will never change. He was good. He is good today. He will be good tomorrow.
Because he is good, he is a refuge in times of trouble. A refuge is something you run to when trouble comes your way.
There are many people running toward God in our nation because of the trouble that has taken place in the last couple of weeks. God is a safe place for us to turn toward in our times of trouble.
When fear wants to grip us and steal our joy, when anger rises in the face of injustice, when we do not know where to turn or who to turn towards, God is there. God will always be there for anyone who wants to put their trust in him.
I encourage everyone today to give God a try, to run to him and feel his embrace. Jesus is coming soon, and the times that we live in will become increasingly troublesome. The answer is always God, for he is always good.
All are welcome to Bethel Community Church on Sundays at 10:30 a.m. for our Sunday Worship Experience. At Bethel, we exist to connect with God, love like God and serve everyone.
