A major milestone in the Colorado Ballpark renovation effort has been reached thanks to a $1 million legislatively specified grant awarded to Los Banos by the State of California with the strong support of District 27 Assemblywoman Esmeralda Soria.

The City of Los Banos will host a ceremonial check presentation and celebration on Saturday, May 17 at 1:30 p.m. at the Colorado Ballpark (815 Colorado Ave.), with Assemblywoman Soria present.

Originally built in 1959, the Colorado Ballpark has long served as a hub for youth and recreation in the community. Today, the park includes three ballfields and the city’s only skate park, collectively serving thousands of youth annually. The park Located in a census tract identified as a severely disadvantaged community area.

As one of the most heavily used parks in the city, Colorado Ballpark is in urgent need of modernization. After decades of continuous use, significant updates are required to bring the facility up to modern standards.

Through the city’s public input process—including community meetings, stakeholder interviews and city council updates—the vision for the park’s renovation has evolved with community needs in mind.

An updated renovation proposal will be presented to the Los Banos City Council in early summer. The current plan calls for a full renovation of the facility, with funding allocated for structural upgrades, safety enhancement, and ADA accessibility improvements.

Thanks to Assemblywoman Soria’s leadership, this $1 million grant marks a critical step toward realizing the community’s vision for a revitalized Colorado Ballpark. The city aims to develop the site into Los Banos’ premier sports destination park and will continue to pursue additional support through grants, donations, and the City’s Park Development Fund.

The City of Los Banos encourages the community to attend the ceremonial check presentation and celebration on May 17 at 1:30 p.m. at the Colorado Ballpark to honor this important achievement and look ahead to a brighter future for the park.
