Four suspects have been arrested in connection with a violent home invasion and shooting that occurred two weeks ago in Los Banos, according to Commander Justin Melden of the Los Banos Police Department.
On March 28 at approximately 2:02 a.m., officers responded to multiple reports of shots fired in the 2000 block of Edward Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered that several armed suspects had forced entry into a residence and confronted the homeowner, Melden said.
Alerted by the disturbance, the homeowner retrieved a legally owned firearm and confronted the intruders. Gunfire was exchanged when the suspects entered a nearby room. According to Melden, the suspects fired multiple rounds at the homeowner, who returned fire and struck three of them.
The suspects fled the residence through a bedroom window and escaped the area in an unknown vehicle.
Two injured suspects were later located, arrested and transported to a Modesto-area hospital for treatment. A third suspect, initially unaccounted for, was later discovered to have sought treatment for a gunshot wound to the upper body at a hospital in Stockton.
Melden explained that investigators believe the suspect self-transported in an attempt to avoid law enforcement detection. That suspect, identified as Marcos Mauricio Lopez, was taken into custody with the assistance of the Stockton Police Department.
The fourth suspect, Jeremy Dejon Grayson, was located on the evening of April 2 in Stockton. Grayson attempted to flee but was apprehended by Los Banos detectives in coordination with Stockton police, Melden said.
Through follow-up investigation, detectives recovered the vehicle involved in the home invasion. Several key pieces of evidence were found inside and are being processed, according to Melden.
The following suspects have been arrested in connection with the case: Marcos Mauricio Lopez, 18, of Stockton; Juan Carlos Beccera Jr., 19, of Stevinson; Trevor Dillan Carrillo Smith, 18, of Stockton; and Jeremy Dejon Grayson, 18, of Stockton.
Each suspect faces charges including attempted murder, assault with a firearm on a person, child endangerment, conspiracy to commit a crime and first-degree burglary.
A fifth suspect remains at large. Anyone with information about the identity or whereabouts of the suspect is urged to contact the Los Banos Police Department.
Commander Melden expressed gratitude for the ongoing investigations, stating, “The Los Banos Police Department would like to thank the Stockton Police Department and our partners with the Merced Area Gang and Narcotic Task Force for their continued assistance with this investigation.”
