On March 13, 2025, Jeanne (Hebert) Downum gracefully left this world, surrounded by her loving family, proving once again that the best company is the one you keep. Born on January 14, 1944, in sunny Los Banos, CA, she brightened our lives for 81 glorious years with her kindness, infectious smile, and a heart so big it could host its own party.
Growing up as the youngest of six on a family farm in Dos Palos, Jeanne was the only girl—making her the queen of her own little kingdom! She attended Lady of Fatima Catholic School then moved on to Dos Palos High School, where she was class secretary and a social butterfly. After a daring Sadie Hawkins date proposal (talk about making the first move!), she found her soulmate, Roger Downum, and they tied the knot in 1965. Together, they raised three wonderful daughters: Debbie (Carlos) Perez, Gaylynn LaVenture, and Denise (Fred) Laccabue. Jeanne took immense joy in her role as a grandmother, cherishing every moment spent with her grandkids, Maddie LaVenture and Nate Laccabue.
Jeanne’s life was a vibrant tapestry woven with travel, laughter, and unforgettable experiences. A master of social gatherings, she had a knack for bringing people together—her warm personality was the secret ingredient in every recipe for joy. Throughout her diverse career, Jeanne believed her most important job was to love fiercely, laugh often, savour good food, appreciate the beauty of nature, and give back more than she took (which was quite a feat for someone who was a competitive card player and adamant Warriors fan).
Though Jeanne may no longer be with us, her spirit lingers in the hearts of all who knew her. She taught us the true meaning of unconditional love, selfless giving, and living life to the fullest—preferably with a side of tacos and guacamole!
Jeanne leaves behind her devoted husband, her three daughters and their spouses, two delightful grandchildren, her loving brother Mike (Jennifer) Hebert, and countless nieces, nephews, and friends who were more like family. She was preceded in death by her mother, Melvina Hebert, and her four brothers; John, Jimmy, Jerry, and George Hebert.)
The family would like to thank the oncology nurses at Kaiser Permanente in Fresno, CA for their incredible attention and care for Jeannie. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or a charity of your choice.
