The Merced County Sheriff’s Posse will be participating in the 47th Presidential Inaugural Parade on Jan. 20, according to a press release from Sheriff Vern Warnke.
The 47th Inauguration will mark the fourth time the Merced County Sheriff’s Posse members have participated in a presidential inauguration parade. This will be the fifth time the Posse has participated in a celebratory event in Washington D.C.
During their trip to Washington, D.C., to celebrate the 47th Inauguration, Sheriff Warnke said, he and the Sheriff’s Posse will formally represent the citizens of Merced County and the Central Valley Sheriffs from San Joaquin County to Kern County. The Merced County Sheriff’s Posse will also be flying flags representing Central Valley Sheriff’s Offices in the parade.
The Merced County Sheriff’s Posse was established in 1948 as a “Goodwill Ambassador” for the Merced County Sheriff’s Office. The unit is currently comprised of various community members.
Over the course of its existence, Warnke said, the posse has played an integral part in the Merced County Search and Rescue Team and regularly participates in various community public relations events, marketing the brand of the Sheriff’s Office.
The Posse has created a GoFundMe account for those who would like to help them get to Washington D.C. That link is: https://gofund.me/e1436963.
