Richard “Rick” L. Dahlgren, a longtime cornerstone of the community of Los Banos, passed away peacefully at home in the early hours of the morning on November 8th 2024.

Rick was born on August 26th 1942 in Spokane, Washington to Marguerite & Carl Dahlgren. The family later relocated to Fresno, California where he attended Fresno High School. He received his bachelor’s degree in Recreation Administration and ran cross country at Fresno State, where he would later be inducted in the Hall of Fame alongside his championship winning team. Rick was also a torchbearer for the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley. He went on to receive his master’s degree from San Jose State University.

He worked as an instructor at Fresno State in the Recreation Administration Department before moving to Los Banos in 1977 with his wife Christine and three children. Rick continued his 40-year long career in Recreation Administration as a Recreation Director for the City of Los Banos. Later he would serve as the City Director of Planning and Redevelopment. Rick was a dedicated member of the ELKS, Los Banos Rotary, and the California Senior Legislative. He was also a proud member of the Thirsty Thursday club.

Rick is survived by his beloved wife Christine Dahlgren (Maffei), his three children – Rob Dahlgren Brown and wife Lise Mifsud, Carie Haley (Dahlgren) and husband Israel Haley, Dusty Dahlgren and wife Nicole Dahlgren, his grandchildren Drew, Gianna, Brooklyn, & Molly, and his sister Joyce Stillman (Dahlgren) and brother-in-law Tom Stillman.

A Mass will be held at 10:00 am Monday, December 2nd, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Los Banos.
