The Los Banos High School girls volleyball team faced a challenging season, with a 9-15 overall record and 2-6 league record. Despite their youthful roster, the Tigers have shown many signs of potential.
The Tigers had impressive wins against Modesto, Orestimba, Pacheco, McLane, Golden Valley (twice), Dos Palos, Buhach Colony and River Islands. These victories showcased the team’s ability to overcome adversity, often against tougher teams.
The Tigers have also faced tough losses this year. They have suffered losses to Downey, Denair, Ripon, Hughson, Merced (twice), Pitman, Chowchilla, Orestimba, Lathrop, Buhach Colony, El Capitan (twice), Atwater, and Golden Valley. These losses helped the team figure out where they need to improve.
The Tigers’ roster has zero seniors, making them one of the youngest teams in the league. Since they are not very experienced, they have faced challenging moments but have shown growth throughout the season.
The Tigers setter, Kaia Nuno, for example, is a freshman who has been very impressive this season. She will continue to improv with three more years to go. Head coach Issac Soliz has high hopes for Nuno and the rest of the team.
“Throughout the season,” said captain Kanin Welch, “I have learned that although we are young, when we’re focused and locked in we’re able to compete with any team. Next year, we have to be more competitive and mentally focused. I want us to work harder to get more wins and make the playoffs.” The Tigers have not made the playoffs since the 2021-2022 season.
As the season has been in its final stretch, the Tigers have aimed to build momentum and secure some league wins. With their youthful team and growing experiences, the Tigers team feels it is poised to make a statement.
The Tigers traveled to Merced High for their last game of the season Oct. 22.
