Every month Los Banos Post Acute holds a birthday bash for the residents who have celebrated their special day, and this month marks one of the biggest milestones yet. On July 28, Vivian Pizor will be celebrating her 100th birthday.

Los Banos Post Acute is a retirement community consisting of a few dozen residents overseen by a staff of nurses, caretakers and activity coordinators. With Lupita Flores acting as lead activity director, the residents of LBPA always have access to a wide array of community events and activities, and Pizor is always in attendance.

Born on July 28, 1924, Vivian Pizor lived in her home state of Nebraska until moving west to California as a young adult. After settling in Fresno, Pizor began expanding her roots amidst the central valley, marrying, having children and eventually finding work in the Fresno community at a local Bank of America from which she eventually retired.

Despite only having checked into Post Acute during March of 2023, Pizor has not been with the community long but has made herself a welcome staple amongst the residents and staff.

Ever the socialite, Pizor is always eager to impress and refuses to appear without going through each step of her morning beauty routine. “She loves lipstick” Flores said, “She does it herself, and she refuses to go to meetings if she isn’t wearing makeup.”

Pizor has even been known to keep a makeup bag close on hand, for those quick, discreet meal-time touch-ups.

Age can never suppress an appetite, and Pizor is as keen on snacking as she is on socializing. Always taking pureed sweet with her meals, she attends the nursing home’s coffee socials and helps herself to at least two cups of joe as she mingles with her fellow residents.

In addition to holding the group birthday celebration, Los Banos Post Acute also hosts workouts for the residents to promote physical activity and community.

Residents are encouraged to stretch, participate in Yoga or go on walks to keep healthy while also soaking up the warm summer sun. Pizor is an eager attendee of all the nursing home’s physical activities, despite being the oldest of the group.

“She totally blew my mind,” said Flores upon remembering how eager Pizor was to exercise. “Her energy does not match 100 years old!”
