The Pacheco Panther boys’ varsity volleyball team opened their 2023 conference play by sweeping the Johansen Vikings in straight matches.
The Panthers defeated the Vikings 25-14 in the first match as Adrian Sanchez recorded an ace on the match point serve to claim the victory. Pacheco handed Johansen a 25-16 loss in the second match, as Bryan Reyes slammed home the decisive 25th point.
In the third and final match, the Panthers completed the sweep with a 25-19 win over the Vikings. Sophomore Nathaniel Tellez, playing in his very first varsity game, dropped in the winning 25th point to complete the 3-match victory for Pacheco.
“I don’t know how I did it (recording the winning shot) but I’m really happy that I did,” Teller said after the game.
Several Panthers had excellent games, with Ismael Martinez, Bryan Reyes and Anthony Medina all recording multiple aces on their serves. Martinez also recorded 15 points on shots.
“This was really a fun set of matches for us to play. Everyone helped us to sweep Johansen, and they are a really good team,” said Martinez after the matches.
