The north side of Firebaugh, as well as the rest of the community, have been abuzz with activity and excitement as the new West Hills College Firebaugh Center opened its new campus facility to students last month.

The college welcomed about 300 students from all over the Westside to the new state-of-the-art campus. They were greeted by 17 instructors, and more than a dozen support staff, including counselors, advisors, program assistants, library technicians, and tutors.

According to Firebaugh Center Dean Bethany Matos, 30 classes are being offered during the current fall term.

She added that teachers and students alike have been very happy with the new campus.

“The students are loving it,” Matos exclaimed. “Many have commented on the new learning spaces and the spacious student study area.  The instructors are enjoying the new flexible technology and the collaborative student furniture.”

Community members who have ventured into the center out of curiosity have also been impressed and excited.

“The community has been extremely supportive,” Matos explained.  “We are open to the public and all interactions have been very positive and encouraging.”

Amber Myrick, the college’s Director of Marketing, said that the official ribbon cutting for the Firebaugh Center will take place on Sept. 27, at 3:30 p.m.

“Everyone is welcome to attend,” said Myrick.  “We are looking forward to celebrating with the students and community.”
