For the first time this season, the Dos Palos Bronco junior varsity football squad came up short in its 13-6 loss to Liberty High of Madera.
The Dos Palos JV was not quite as sharp as it had been in its two previous decisive victories, perhaps because of the extreme heat.
Liberty scored twice on long runs, resulting in 13 points, and the young Broncos could only cross the goal line on an Andre Flores’ six-yard touchdown.
Flores paced the Bronco offense rushing for 122 yards and the one score.
Bronco freshman quarterback Gavin Blackwood-Estrada rushed for 66 yards and completed passes to Flores, Anthony Lish and Jesus Tapia for another 60 yards. Drake Jasso was all over the field making plays on defense for Dos Palos, and Dominic Esquivel, Lolo Clark and Flores recorded numerous tackles for the Broncos.
The young Broncos travel to Santa Maria Sept. 9 for their next contest.
