When most people think of a library, they think of books. But the Merced College Los Banos Campus library offers many other services for Los Banos Campus students.

The library offers a variety of services to students which otherwise may not be available to them. A college library, besides a collection of important books, is a public service available to the college community.

Whatever questions or needs students may have, staff and faculty are committed to supporting and guiding them.

Here are some of the services available the college library in Los Banos:

Quiet study and working spaces open to students and open to the general public.

Ten TI-84 Plus Color Graphing Calculators are now available to students for one-week checkouts and are renewable. These are expensive pieces of equipment but are available for students to use for free.

Seven desktop computers are ready for students who need to access the internet for their assignments or need to utilize Microsoft Office. In addition, 10 HP laptops and 28 SurfacePro tablets are also available for students to checkout for two hours in-house.

The library has two study rooms that students may checkout for two hours and do their work in total peace. The large study room is ideal for group projects or spaces to self-record speeches for communication classes.

Students have access to a printer, so that they can print out their assignments or other materials in black and white or color.

A copy card is required to use the college’s printing services. The cost for black-and-white copies is ten cents per page, for color copies 40 cents per page.

And, yes, there are books, including a reserve of textbooks for current semester classes in Los Banos. The textbook reserve is updated every semester, and students are able to checkout a textbook for in-house use only. Checkout time is two hours and is renewable.

The library also boasts a small archive collection of Los Banos Campus history dating back to its establishment in 1971. The library staff is currently undertaking the grand task of digitizing the archives in order to better preserve their history.

Students and the general public are welcome to visit and peruse the archives, staff only ask that they are notified ahead of time.

As a reminder, in order to access the following services, a Merced College student identification number is required.
