The Los Banos Tigers varsity baseball team hosted Mountain House High School on Feb. 26 and was defeated 5–3. The Tigers are currently 0–5.
Mountain House got on the board at the top of the first inning after Abhinav Jaitly singled down the right field line, Tommy Neri grounded into a fielder’s choice, and Brayden Carpenter grounded into a double play, each scoring one run.
The varsity Tigers tied the game up in the bottom of the third thanks to two singles. Los Banos tied the game at three on a single by Elijah Mejia.
In the top of the sixth, Mountain House broke the tie when Frank Thomas doubled, scoring one run. Then a single by Tashawn Moore followed to extend the lead to 5–3.
Mejia stepped on the mound first for the Tigers. The pitcher gave up four hits and three runs over four innings, striking out four and walking three.
Carpenter began the game for Mountain House. The starter allowed four hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out 10 and walking four.
Ben Lugo and Mejia were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Los Banos. Lugo, Gavin Estrada, Andrew Lopez and Mejia each collected one hit for the Tigers. Los Banos turned two double plays in the game.
Los Banos will travel to Livingston for their next game on March 3. The Tigers’ next home game is March 5 against Dos Palos. The game starts at 3:30 p.m.
The Los Banos JV tigers claimed a 7-1 victory over the Mustangs.
The young Tigers used the offense of Jacob Nunez (2 for 3 H, 1 RBI), Kellen Saucedo (2 for 4 H, 2 R), Giovanni Oates (1 for 2 H, SAC, 2 R, 1 RBI), Adrian DeLaCruz (1 for 3 H, 1 RBI)and Grayson Houtekamer (3 AB, 2R, 2BB, 1 RBI), and the strong battery combination of pitcher Enzo Climber and catcher Carlos Renoyso, to dominate the Mustangs completely.
Los Banos scored two runs in the first inning on hits by Saucedo, Oates and Nunez and added five more runs in the next five innings, only allowing just the one run to Mountain House in route to their 7-1 victory.
