A Los Banos man surrendered to authorities last Friday after a six-hour standoff at a mobile home complex, according to police.
At about 7:20 a.m. on April 5, officers responded to a reported disturbance in the 2100 block of E. Pacheco Blvd. at the Rancho Mobile Home Park. When they arrived, they discovered that 27-year-old Pedro Cendejas had allegedly broken into his ex-girlfriend’s home through a window while armed with a handgun, according to Commander Justin Melden.
Officers learned that four adults and four children were potentially being held inside the home. After initial negotiations, all individuals were released without injury.
Due to the potential danger, the Merced County Sheriff’s Department SWAT team was called in to assist. As a precaution, nearby homes were evacuated while crisis negotiators worked to make contact with Cendejas.
“After approximately six hours, Cendejas agreed to cooperate and surrendered to officers outside the residence,” Melden said.
Prior to Friday’s incident, police had been searching for Cendejas in connection with a felony arrest warrant issued in March for child endangerment and evading law enforcement during a vehicle pursuit. He was also on active Post-Release Community Supervision for a previous felony resisting arrest conviction.
Cendejas was taken into custody on multiple felony charges, including possession of a stolen firearm. No injuries were reported during the incident.
