The Board of Trustees of the Dos Palos-Oro Loma Joint Unified School District announced that it has selected Sean Richey as the district’s next superintendent. The board approved his contract at the August 20 board meeting.
Richey brings more than 20 years of experience in public education to his role as superintendent. Most recently, he served as the Interim Superintendent of the Los Banos Unified School District. Richey has served as a teacher; assistant principal; elementary, high school and continuation high school principal; and Chief Academic Officer.
As LBUSD’s Interim Superintendent, Richey oversaw all aspects of district operations, maintained strong relationships with certificated and classified employee associations, maintained positive budget certification and helped lead the district out of state-identified district assistance.
As Chief Academic Officer, Richey led districtwide efforts to strengthen teaching and learning through Professional Learning Communities, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support, restorative practices, expanded English learner programs, districtwide assessments and standards-aligned curriculum.
Richey led the establishment of LBUSD’s first dual language immersion program. He also helped secure more than $20 million in Community Schools funding to expand services and opportunities for students and families.
Through his leadership, Grasslands Elementary was named a California Distinguished School in 2024.
As Superintendent, Richey is committed to building strong relationships with the Governing Board, staff, students, families and community while building upon the existing strengths of Dos Palos-Oro Loma JUSD.
His priorities include improving student achievement, expanding opportunities for all students, recruiting and retaining exceptional employees, maintaining long-term fiscal stability and ensuring that district resources remain focused on the needs of students and schools.
Richey believes lasting improvement is built through trust, transparency, collaboration and a shared commitment to students.
He holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Stanislaus State University, is professionally fluent in Spanish, and was named the 2024 ACSA Region 9 Central Office Administrator of the Year and the 2019 ACSA Region 7 Secondary Principal of the Year.
