On March 28, at approximately 2:02 a.m., Los Banos police officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 2000 block of Edward Street.
Upon arrival, officers determined that multiple armed suspects had forcibly entered a residence and confronted the homeowner.
The homeowner, alerted by the disturbance, confronted the intruders inside his residence. He was able to retrieve a legally owned firearm and exchange gunfire with the suspects.
During the confrontation, the suspects fired multiple rounds at the homeowner, who returned fire, striking two of them.
Following the exchange, the suspects fled the residence through a bedroom window. The uninjured suspects escaped the area in an unknown vehicle.
Officers later located two of the injured suspects, who were arrested and transported to a Modesto-area hospital for treatment of gunshot-related injuries.
One home invasion suspect who was shot by the resident, arrested and transported to a Modesto hospital has now been released from the hospital according to Los Banos Police Commander Justin Melden.
Juan Carlos Becerra, 18 of Modesto was booked into the Merced County Jail on charges of assault with a firearm, attempted murder, first degree burglary, conspiracy to commit a crime and child endangerment. Bail was set at $635,000.
No residents or neighbors were injured during the incident. The Los Banos Police Department is actively investigating this case.
