The Los Banos High School boys golf team competed in the Merced tournament on March 10, facing off against 20 teams and 100 golfers from around the region.
Despite facing challenging competition, the team held its own, with several players making their debut in a match setting.
The team is shorthanded compared to last year’s squad with only has six players.
The golfers are Gannon Lemos, Jared van Loben Sels, Sutton Powers, Brokton Borelli, Brayden Diaz and John Leonard.
According to the team’s captain and four-year player, Gannon Lemos, the players performed well, taking note that it was their first match of the season for some of them.
Lemos ended up finishing sixth out of 100 players and shot an impressive 75.
The Merced tournament provided a great opportunity for the Los Banos team to gain experience and use its skills against other top teams in the area.
With such a large number of golfers competing, the tournament was a great test of the team’s abilities.
This tournament prepared the team to compete in its new league.
Los Banos placed 15th out of 20 teams. As the season moves forward, the Los Banos boys golf team will be working to better their skills and build on their performance at the Merced tournament.
With practice and dedication, they are expected to make strides and become a competitor in the league.
The Los Banos boys golf team is looking forward to a successful season. As it continues to develop its skills and gain experience, they will undoubtedly become a team to watch.
The next match will be at Pheasant Run Golf Club in Chowchilla against El Capitan High School on Mar. 25.
