Nihla was born July 5, 1935 in Reedley, California to Virginia and Jewell Kreighbaum as the second of seven children. Nihla married Joseph (Bud) Murad Maron II on January 22, 1955 in Las Vegas, Nevada and they had three children Joseph (Buddy), Ramona, and Lisa. Nihla went to be with the Lord on July 22, 2023 at the age of 88.
Nihla is survived by her son, Joseph Maron III of Dos Palos; daughter, Ramona McNeely of Broomfield, Colorado; daughter, Lisa Maron of Dos Palos; sister, Mary Belle Benson of Los Gatos; son-in-law, Michael McNeely of Broomfield, Colorado; granddaughters Amy Maron of San Francisco; Danielle Esposito of Fishers, Indiana; Mariel Sullivan of Kyle, Texas; grandsons Colin McNeely of Missoula, Montana; Brandon Maron; and seven great grandchildren, including great granddaughter Eden; and great grandsons Aiden, Ryder, Hunter, Robert, Cash, and Ralston.
Nihla was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Maron, granddaughter Kirstin Maron, sisters Rose and June; and brothers Carl, Bobby, and Jerry.
Nihla loved Jesus, her family, the many students who passed through her counseling office at Dos Palos High School, her many special friends, and her treasured flower garden, especially the roses.
Nihla was a familiar smiling face at Dos Palos High School first starting as school registrar after graduating from there in 1954, then becoming the main office secretary and further climbing the ladder to be secretary for the superintendent. After graduating from California State University, Fresno, with Summa Cum Laude highest honors, she returned to Dos Palos High School as a business teacher, librarian, and then served as a long-time guidance counselor for over three decades in the role she loved most in helping students advance their lives.
Services will be held on Friday, August 18, at 10 a.m. at The Rock Church in Dos Palos. Burial services will be at 1 p.m. at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, Santa Nella with a reception following.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nihla’s honor to the Nihla G. Maron New Beginnings Scholarship Fund at Dos Palos High School.
