On a night that saw the school honor 17 seniors, the Dos Palos Broncos ran their West Sierra League record to 3-0 with a 35-0 shutout over Tranquillity last Friday at Frankian Field.

This Friday, the Broncos will head down Highway 33 where they will take on the Firebaugh Eagles in another WSL match-up.

After a porous effort last week against Mendota, the Bronco defense stepped up, holding the Tigers to just 36 yards of total offense. Linebacker Drake Hennagan led the effort with six tackles and one quarterback sack while teammates Kevin Shulz, Will Montemurro, and D. Robbins each had three tackles.

The Dos Palos offense was efficient and methodical against a young Tiger squad. Tranquillity started the game off with on onside kick, which the Broncos recovered at midfield.  After one running play, quarterback Peyton Van Worth hit Elias Malfabon over the middle for a 42 -yard gain to the Tranquillity 10 yard line.  One play later, Van Worth ran the ball in for the game’s first score.

After holding Tranquillity on downs, the Broncos set up shop on their 36-yard line.  Another run by Van Worth gained 14 yards and Hennagan followed with a 10 -yard gain.  After Van Worth carried the ball to the Tranquillity 14-yard line, Andre Flores followed with another TD run.

In the second quarter, the Broncos added their lead when the Tiger quarterback set up to pass.  His toss clanked off the hands of his receiver right into the arms of Malfabon, who rambles 26-yards untouched for the score to give Dos Palos a 28-0 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, the Broncos iced the game and Malfabon was again the catalyst.  Taking a punt on his own 35 yard line, he eluded the initial pursuit, headed to his right and then changed direction.  Heading down the left sideline, he evaded the pursuit and scampered for a 65-yard touchdown.

Van Worth finished the night with 110 yards passing (six for seven).

Flores was the leading rusher with 87 yards on nine carries.
