On Tuesday, both the girl’s and boy’s water polo teams from Pacheco high school hosted the Johansen Vikings; the girl’s squad (1-7) dropped a 6-2 decision to the Vikings as the Panthers only managed to score two goals, one each from Shelsea Ramos and one from Deserie Soto.

In an inspiring boy’s match, the Panthers (4-4) defeated the Vikings by the score of 13-10. After playing in the goalkeeper’s position for the first quarter, Eirvin Rubio moved out into the pool and inspired the Panthers with his excellent overall play. Rubio scored six of Pacheco’s 13 goals and blocked several Viking shots. Jonathon Rodriguez also had a great game for the Panthers, scoring six goals and playing excellent defense.

After the match, Panther Johnathan Rodriguez said, “It was a heck of a game. We moved the ball well all match, and that opened up some great shot opportunities for Eirvin and me to score as much as we did.”

With their victory, coach Irene Duke’s boys’ team improved to 4-4 on the season, and they will travel to Lathrop on Thursday, Oct. 6, to battle the Spartans.
