Greg Wellman, who was announced by Mayor Tom Faria as the new Los Banos interim city manager after the city council’s closed session July 6, brings many years of city government experience.

He was recognized by the International City-County Management Association for 45 years of service to local government

His most recent city experience was as interim city manager of Oakdale from 2011 to 2013, according to his LinkedIn site.

He has also worked as a human services agency director, county administrator, and city manager of Atwater. And he has served as general manager of the Delhi and Franklin (in Merced) water districts.

From 2002 to 2010 Wellman served as Atwater’s city manager. And from 1997 to 2001 he was Merced County’s Administrator.

He started his career in public service in 1976 as an assistant county administrator for Merced County.

In his op ed article in the Merced Sun Star after 40 years in public service, Wellman wrote, “Leadership by sitting behind a desk never works. Get out and see for yourself, be available to all parties, even those who are in opposition to your recommendations.”

Wellman has also been the owner of Wellman Advisors LLC since July 2020.
